Into the Cool of the Pool

The Deer Park Pool is on track to open around July 1st. There have been several obstacles along the way. However, through hard work and community involvement, it is happening this year.

At the June 16th Deer Park City Hall meeting Brad Wainwright, Maintenance Superintendent for Deer Park City, made a report about the pool. In it, he stated that the city had 30 applications for the 10 positions open for staff.  Most positions were for certified lifeguards, and there was some concern in finding them due to training for the certification being limited because of COVID. Wainwright said that 9 people out of the 30 were certified lifeguards, some willing to travel long distances for the job. The other 21 people will be applying to become a COVID monitor. Wainwright said he would be scheduling interviews to start on June 21st.

The pool is filled with water, chlorine added and the pumps are working. The city will still need to do its regular process such as passing the health inspection and putting up signage. If everything goes as planned the pool will open around July 1st, with the hours being 11:30 am to 5 pm Monday-Saturday. The wading pool will not be available and COVID-19 precautions will still be taken into account. The pool is located at Swinyard Park.
