Comcast’s Internet Essentials Program

Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, Comcast Cable increases the speed of their Internet Essentials Program, offering 25/3 Mbps Internet service at $9.95/mo for eligible, low-income families and households. New customers can now receive their first two months free if they apply for service by May 13, 2020.

With the closure of businesses, libraries, and schools due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of free or low-cost Internet access points available to the public has dwindled, while the need for access at home has met an increased demand. The vital role in daily life that the Internet plays has become increasingly clear–now more than ever, it is apparent that the Internet is a necessity. Working, teaching, learning, and staying connected from home all require access to the World Wide Web. For millions of low-income Americans, no internet connection at home only makes these uncertain times more difficult to manage.

To help alleviate this, Comcast has increased the speeds of their Internet Essentials Program, as well as offering two months of free access to new customers.

A free Wireless Gateway and install kit will be issued to approved customers, and no activation or equipment rental fees will be charged.

“Our hope is that broader access and faster speeds will help all of our Internet Essentials customers more easily work from home, access educational resources, obtain important government health care alerts, and stay in contact with their families during this difficult time,” Dana Strong, Comcast’s President of Consumer Services, expressed in a press release last month.

Additional benefits of this program include:

  •  Access to free internet training online through the Learning Center
  •  Access to 40 1-hr sessions of Xfinity HotSpots every 30 days
  • Option to purchase a laptop or desktop computer

New customers must apply by May 13th. There are additional qualifying factors that deem customers eligible for this program.  To learn more visit www.internetessentials.com/covid19
