Go-Giver

Julie Ives, one of Horizon Credit Union’s top employee volunteers in 2018, presented two $250 donations to non-profits in the Deer Park community – one to Deer Park Senior Center and one to Deer Park Meals on Wheels.
Julie earned this donation by exceeding 100 hours of volunteer time in the Horizon Credit Union Go-Givers employee volunteer program in 2018. As a result, she was able to choose a local non-profit to receive an HZCU Go-Givers donation.

She chose to split the $500 donation between Deer Park Meals on Wheels and the Deer Park Senior Center to support seniors in the Deer Park community.

“Volunteering in the Deer Park community has been so much fun!” said Julie. “Being involved in this community has given me the opportunity to give back and I have met so many amazing volunteers over the past year. I am happy to work for such an amazing organization that is generous in so many ways.”

In 2018 alone, Julie has volunteered 148 hours in the Deer Park community. She has contributed her time to Deer Park Settler’s Day, Deer Park Dollars for Scholars, Pumpkin Lane, Deer Park High School, Deer Park Kiwanis and the Greenhouse Community Center.

“Julie makes an impact in her community,” says Kathleen Schilb, Community Relations Administrator at Horizon Credit Union. “The work she does is a great example of what the HZCU Go-Givers volunteer recognition program is designed to highlight. Volunteering out in the community helps us, as an organization, make an impact beyond the walls of our branches.”

HZCU Go-Giver Volunteers

Julie is among seven Horizon employees who have reached the 100 hour volunteer mark in the Horizon Credit Union Go-Givers employee volunteer program so far in 2018.

The program encourages employees to engage in their communities. Volunteers that go above and beyond are awarded the chance to make a donation to a 501c(3) non profit of their choice on behalf of the credit union.

Serving Seniors in the Community

The Deer Park Senior Center serves up Senior Nutrition Monday-Friday at 11:30am and also hosts activities throughout the week. In the Meals on Wheels program, meals are delivered bi-weekly to those ages 60+ and homebound.

Right now I am hearing of things being said about the Deer Park School levy, particularly the need for a new bus barn, that are troubling.
