Swinyard park has been a hot topic recently. Along with the playground equipment, or lack thereof, and the need for restoration and updates, there was also a call to remove the RV park area. After five months of debate, the city council voted in favor of removing the RV section of the park.
With many decisions yet to be made, this leaves yet another aspect of the park up for discussion and debate. What will go in that space? Additional greenspace, a parking lot, or some other development?
The Medicine Shoppe in Deer Park is closing its doors permanently on November 28th due to undisclosed circumstances. All patient prescription files are being automatically transferred to Sixth Avenue Pharmacy in Spokane. Patients will need to contact the new pharmacy to update their payment information, as credit card details could not be transferred.

Fire erupted from a van parked in front of Sculley’s on Monday. A quick response by Spokane County Fire District #4 crews prevented a vehicle fire from spreading to the structure. Traffic was blocked on A Street for a short time while crews worked on the fire.
As a city council member in the late 70’s and early 80’s and a city employee for 24 years I have heard a lot of misinformation disseminated through “coffee shop” talk and later social media. It has always concerned me to hear incorrect information passed along by people who don’t bother to ask for the facts, when they are readily available. Right now I am hearing of things being said about the Deer Park School levy, particularly the need for a new bus barn, that are troubling.
