Six Word Stories

A six word story seems self explanatory, right? With six words and only six words, tell a clear story.

The origins of this flash fiction medium have been attributed to a bet made with the famous scribe Ernest Hemingway. It’s been suggested, though without proof, that Hemingway was challenged to write a novel in six words. What was eventually pinned is real and hailed as being brilliant, vivid and tragic.

“For sale, baby shoes, never worn.” Hemingway wrote.

Now the Dee Park Gazette is going to pass this challenge on to you, the reader. Here’s a chance to try your hand at this form of brief story telling.

The prompt will be in the newspaper and on Facebook. Submit your six word stories on our facebook page. Our favorite stories will be published the following month. Responses will be judged on creativity and the ability to communicate a story.

This month’s prompt:

Write a six word story about: The Pirate’s Treasure
