
Deer Park Prepares For Changing Seasons
As fall arrives the city is preparing for winter and wrapping up fair weather projects. Improvements to the city’s Christmas decorations and additions to the tree-lighting ceremony were also discussed.
As fall arrives the city is preparing for winter and wrapping up fair weather projects. Improvements to the city’s Christmas decorations and additions to the tree-lighting ceremony were also discussed.
The importance of clear communication was a common theme with a number of topics on the Council’s agenda. Related subjects ranged from how the city conducts surveys to project taskforces and even technology to help citizens with hearing impairments.
Property owners outside of Deer Park have requested the city annex their land into the city limits. Architects have been selected to determine what can be done about the city hall building. Cannabis, law enforcement, and the library park were also topics of discussion.
First, a petition for annexation has been submitted to the city for a new housing development. Secondly, the council will be considering banning marijuana-related businesses. Last was regarding preservation costs for city hall and roads that are higher than expected.
Two new leaders are taking office in Deer Park as 2021 comes to a close. Mayor Tim Verzal was also re-elected to continue his mayoral role for an additional four years.
Did you know you can make sure your ballot has been counted? Only 8 votes separate two candidates in the election for City Council Position #3. Nearly 20 ballots might not be counted as a result of signature issues.
Election results have just been updated for the Deer Park City Mayoral and City Council races. The Secretary of State certifies final results by December 2nd, 2021. All results posted before certification are unofficial.
After lots of campaigning and two candidate forums, the city council and mayoral election is finally behind voters.
Primary candidates campaigning for Deer Park City Council positions will participate in a town hall debate at the Pickett Fence in Deer Park. This event will allow voters to get to know candidates through a question-answer section which will include questions from event hosts, the community, and each other.
The official ballot drop box closed at 8pm for the primary election that took place on August 3rd this year. The early results are in and laid out here. However, the county canvassing boards will be certifying the results as of August 17.
