Grace, glitz and guts commanded the stage as the Miss Deer Park Scholarship Association held their annual ceremony tonight at Christ’s Church in Deer Park, WA. Eight local Deer Park High School junior ladies competed to be crowned Miss Deer Park 2021.

Have you ever considered running for office? This year brings some potential changes to Deer Park’s city government with two council seats and the mayorship up for election. When considering whether or not to run, it’s hard to know where to begin.
The City of Deer Park operates under a Mayor-Council form of government, with five elected council members each serving 4-year terms. There will be two seat positions up for election in 2021, in addition to the position for mayor.

When the name Crawford is used in Deer Park, it is understood to be Crawford Street, the primary east-west road in the city. Long before Crawford became known as a street, a man named George E. Crawford was known over a century ago as a local lumber entrepreneur. His family helped build the town’s foundations and the oldest, still operating, church in Deer Park. Located in the center of downtown at 315 East Crawford Avenue is Perrins Field Park. The field was dedicated and named after the teacher, coach, and civic leader Sam Perrins. Perrins arrived in Deer Park in 1931, and became a fixture in the school system for over 30 years. He is the person who spearheaded clearing the land to provide a football field for the high school students who were, at that time, located across the street in what is now City Hall.

Woodland Cemetery has invited volunteers to come and help maintain the beauty of its surroundings. The wind storms this year have left a layer of pine cones and limbs needing to be raked into piles.

The Clayton Pro West Rodeo is planning its return. After being forced to cancel their annual event due to COVID restrictions in 2020, the event is coming back July 23rd and 24th 2021.

The Loonsday race organizers are having a t-shirt design contest! The winning designer will win $100 and their design will be used on all the finisher tees and sweatshirts.

Traffic circles continue to be one of Deer Park’s favorite things to complain about, but we’re curious how many in town really dislike them?

Upcoming election in April offers hope for one school district. A special election on February 9th, 2021 asked voters to replace the expiring three-year Educational Programs and Operations (EP&O) Levy. This levy, if approved, would not change or increase current tax rates. Schools use their EP&O Levy funds for many different learning programs and activities outside of state-funded basic education, including but not limited to programs in their community like:
