Power Outage Affects Greater Deer Park Area Up To Loon Lake

Update 11:58am: And the power is down again…

Update 11:54am: Avista has restored the power.

Update 11:45am: Avista is now reporting over 4,000 customers without power.

A power outage that began just before 11 am has left the entire city of Deer Park and homes to the south without electricity. Avista, the local utility company, is aware of the situation and estimates power will be restored by 1:45 pm today.

Residents of Deer Park were caught off guard when the power went out just before 11 am this morning, affecting the entire city and homes to the south. The sudden outage has disrupted daily routines and left many residents wondering on social media about the cause and duration of the incident.

According to Avista’s outage map, the power outage is estimated to be resolved by 1:45 pm today. Crews have been dispatched to identify the cause of the outage and work on restoring power to the affected areas. Avista has not yet released any information regarding the specific cause of the outage.

The Deer Park School District is also without power. According to an update sent via the school district app, that school will continue as usual. The District’s post also indicates that Avista had a main breaker fail.

In the meantime, residents are advised to exercise caution and avoid downed power lines or damaged electrical equipment. Those relying on electrical medical devices should ensure they have backup power sources or seek assistance.

FRED R. MILLER,  passed away at home on Jan 14, 2026.  Fred was born in Spokane WA, on April 4,1944.   He grew up in Spokane attending Central Valley High School until his senior year, graduating from Deer Park High School in 1962.  Fred enlisted in the Navy out of high school, spending time in San Diego and Annapolis. He later graduated from WSU with distinction.

Shirley McRae Passes Away at 91

Shirley Eleanor (Kintschi) McRae, 91, of Spokane and formerly Deer Park, passed away on December 3, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Shirley was born to Morris Kintschi and Anna (Tanner) Kintschi on April 29, 1934, in Edwall, Washington. She graduated from Edwall High School in 1952, where she met her husband-to-be, John McRae. John and Shirley were married in 1954, and they lived in Redondo Beach, California, while John served in the U.S. Navy. They returned to Spokane in 1955, living on Five Mile Prairie, then at Dartford, and finally in the house that John designed and built in Deer Park in 1976, where the family lived for over 42 years.
