City Survey: Splash Pads & Other Park Features

Map of Deer Park with red stars marking Mix Park and Swinyard Park

The City of Deer Park is moving closer to realizing a long-debated splash pad project, with funding allocated in the 2024 budget. To gather public input, the City has created a survey seeking feedback on the preferred location, features, and amenities. The deadline for responses is April 14th.

The City Council recently held a meeting to discuss the proposed splash pad project, which has generated significant interest among residents. The meeting saw a lively debate about the potential locations for the splash pad, with two sites under consideration: Mix Park and Swinyard Park, both of which already offer various amenities such as parking, restrooms, and playgrounds.

Some residents voiced their concerns about using city funds for the splash pad project, questioning whether it should be a priority. However, the city currently has a cash surplus that would cover the cost of the splash pad. This surplus has been growing every year due to tax revenues, while the funds have been losing purchasing power due to inflation.

The survey is an essential tool for the City to make an informed decision about the splash pad project, taking into account the community’s preferences and concerns. Once the survey results have been compiled and analyzed, they will be shared on the City’s webpage.

The City of Deer Park’s splash pad survey covers various topics to help guide the decision-making process. Questions include the preferred location for the splash pad (Mix Park or Swinyard Park), favorite types of splash pad features, and other park improvements that should be considered alongside the new amenity. The survey also asks residents about the frequency of their potential visits and the primary reasons for using the splash pad.

When completing the survey, please let the City know that you learned about it through the Deer Park Gazette. The Survey is available online at: DPGazette.com/4c7oo

Letter To The Editor – School Levy Importance

As a city council member in the late 70’s and early 80’s and a city employee for 24 years I have heard a lot of misinformation disseminated through “coffee shop” talk and later social media. It has always concerned me to hear incorrect information passed along by people who don’t bother to ask for the facts, when they are readily available. Right now I am hearing of things being said about the Deer Park School levy, particularly the need for a new bus barn, that are troubling.
