The annual Brickyard Day Celebration is set to take place this weekend, offering festivities, entertainment, and community togetherness. Whether you’re a local resident or visiting the area, this family-friendly event promises a memorable experience for all.

Movie Night
The festivities kick off on Friday, August 4th, with a special treat for movie lovers. As the sun sets, families are invited to gather on the Clayton Grange lawn, located at 4478 Railroad Ave, Clayton. The movie title will be a surprise but promises to be a fun and family-friend film. Come enjoy some quality time with your loved ones under the stars.

Brickyard Day 5K Fun Run
The main event is Saturday, August 5th, and begins with an energetic Brickyard Day 5K Fun Run with check-in between 7:45am and 8am, with the race starting shortly after. The 5K Fun Run will begin and end at the Clayton Grange. The run is an open course of asphalt and gravel. There will be a goodie bag for each entry, and winners for each age group will receive a prize. Ages 10 and under are free to wear a helmet and ride their bike, and dogs are welcome as long as they remain on a leash.

Pre-register for the race via flyers at Real Estate Marketplace and Yoke’s Fresh Market in Deer Park and email [email protected] or go online at Flowcode.com/p/OVYVtCyMT.

The cost of the run is $15. You can make checks payable to CDPHS and mail them to PO Box 293 Clayton, WA 99110 or bring cash or check the morning of the race.

Parade
Parade staging will begin at 9am along Railroad Rd, with judging at 9:30-10am. At 10:30 am, the vibrant parade will kick off along Railroad Rd, showcasing the community’s pride and spirit. Participants include Autos, Floats, Marching, Youth, Commercial, and Equestrians. Before and during the parade, watch for Brickyard Day committee members handing out the iconic free ice cream vouchers that can be redeemed in the Clayton Grange basement after the parade, all courtesy of Washington State Dairy Women and Lazy “L” Ranch.

Honored Citizen
The parade will feature this year’s Honored Citizen Mary Lentz, a well-respected community member who has significantly contributed to Clayton.

Mary Lentz (Rogers) was born in Libby, Montana, and grew up in the Spokane Valley. She married Del Lentz in 1973; together, they bought 40 acres of land in Clayton and named it “The Lazy L. The Lentz’ three children, LaRae, Loren, and Christy, graduated from Deer Park.

Mary is proud of her nursing and caregiving career and cherishes the “good life” she and her children have shared on the Lazy “L” Farm. She now enjoys celebrating her grandchildren’s accomplishments. Some of her philosophies are “Family is Everything,” “Love all, forgive often,” and “Enjoy all you can.”

Over the course of their 37-year marriage, Del and Mary made a great team. Working with the Clayton Grange, they helped start the pancake breakfast and then began making free breakfasts for the Deer Park and Clayton Fair. These breakfasts still continue today. When a fire gutted the Clayton Grange, in May 2005, Mary and her husband, along with a host of other volunteers, were instrumental in rebuilding the structure. Mary and her husband also worked at the Youth Center in Deer Park before Del’s passing in 2010. Clayton is lucky to have such a positive, community-spirited individual, who’s often seen trailing behind a horse, or ten, during the parade with a pail, a shovel, and a cheerful smile.

T-Shirts
The 40th-anniversary Brickyard Day T-shirt pays tribute to Ty Lim, who played a central role in this event for many years. Ty’s contributions included finding great deals on the shirts and ensuring their design honored the tradition of Brickyard Day. Sadly, Ty suffered from serious health conditions and passed away in 2023, leaving behind his wife and children.

To support Ty’s family during this difficult time, Sue Palmer has organized a GoFundMe page where donations can be made in Ty’s memory. The Brickyard Day Organizing Committee chose Jovee Lim’s, Ty’s daughter, design for this year’s anniversary shirt. The plan is to donate a portion of each sale to the Lim family’s GoFundMe account at: Gofundme.com/f/ty-lim-family-fund. The T-shirts will be available for purchase at Yoke’s Fresh Market in Deer Park.

Clayton Grange Breakfast and Lunch
Stop by the Clayton Grange between 8am and 10am for a delicious Benefit Breakfast. Your generous donations will go towards supporting Clayton Grange, a valuable community organization. After the parade, head to the Grange’s BBQ Lunch from 11am to 1pm.

Other Festivities
Following the parade, Clayton Grange will host the Silent Dessert Auction from 11 am to 1 pm. Indulge your sweet tooth while bidding on various delectable treats generously donated by community members. It’s an excellent opportunity to satisfy your cravings while supporting local initiatives.

Time Traveler will take the stage at Clayton Grange from 11am to 2pm, entertaining attendees with a diverse set of great tunes. Get ready to tap your feet and dance along to the infectious rhythm.

In addition to these scheduled events and the vendor booths, the Brickyard Day Celebration offers a plethora of all-day fun activities for people of all ages.
