Miss Deer Park Putting On The Greatest Show

Celebrate the exceptional young women in your community at the 2023 Miss Deer Park Scholarship Program, “The Greatest Show.” Seven remarkable ladies will compete to represent Deer Park throughout the upcoming year.

The Miss Deer Park Scholarship Association has announced that the highly anticipated 2023 Miss Deer Park Scholarship Program, “The Greatest Show,” will be held on Saturday, March 18th, 2023, at 6pm. The program will be hosted at the Ken Fisher Auditorium at Deer Park High School, located at 800 S Weber Rd. The doors will open at 5pm, and entry will be $15.00 per person. Those interested in attending the event can contact a representative or contestant to purchase tickets before the event.

This year’s program features seven remarkable young ladies who have been working tirelessly to prepare for this event. The participants are each unique and have demonstrated exceptional character, making them worthy representatives of the Deer Park community. The young ladies are all vying for the chance to be one of three Miss Deer Park Representatives, who will represent the town throughout the upcoming year.

Here is a closer look at the young ladies competing this year:

#1 Malia Valenzuela, daughter of Rich and Sara Valenzuela, has dreams of becoming a large animal veterinarian. She plans on attending Northwest College in Wyoming to achieve her goals.

#2 Brianna Crist, daughter of Leslie Tillman-Crist, is determined to become a math teacher. While she has not yet decided where to attend, she is working hard towards her career goals.

#3 Elayna Shupe, daughter of Brent and Jennifer Shupe, aspires to be a real estate broker. She plans on attending Whitworth University in Spokane to pursue her career.

#4 Carly Shines, daughter of Nicole Smith, has a passion for teaching and plans to attend Eastern Washington University in Cheney to achieve her goals.

#5 Elizabeth Fausti, daughter of Joe and Tami Fausti, is interested in a career in business. She plans on attending Washington State University to pursue her career aspirations.

#6 Mackenzie Hayes, daughter of Amanda Jones, has her sights set on joining the air force and becoming a Special Operations Weather Technician. She plans on attending the United States Air Force Academy to achieve her dreams.

#7 Shelby Dyer, daughter of Tim and Jennifer Dyer, has a passion for beauty and plans to attend beauty school after graduating from high school.

In all the cracks of Denette’s life from 6 years old to shortly prior to passing she was an avid and passionate concert attendee and traveler, in her short time in this life she traveled to 15 countries with some of her favorites destinations including Ireland, London, Hawaii, Belize, New York, Forks, La Push, Montana, and countless Caribbean islands.

Fred R. Miller

FRED R. MILLER,  passed away at home on Jan 14, 2026.  Fred was born in Spokane WA, on April 4,1944.   He grew up in Spokane attending Central Valley High School until his senior year, graduating from Deer Park High School in 1962.  Fred enlisted in the Navy out of high school, spending time in San Diego and Annapolis. He later graduated from WSU with distinction.

Shirley McRae Passes Away at 91

Shirley Eleanor (Kintschi) McRae, 91, of Spokane and formerly Deer Park, passed away on December 3, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Shirley was born to Morris Kintschi and Anna (Tanner) Kintschi on April 29, 1934, in Edwall, Washington. She graduated from Edwall High School in 1952, where she met her husband-to-be, John McRae. John and Shirley were married in 1954, and they lived in Redondo Beach, California, while John served in the U.S. Navy. They returned to Spokane in 1955, living on Five Mile Prairie, then at Dartford, and finally in the house that John designed and built in Deer Park in 1976, where the family lived for over 42 years.
