Volunteers Desperately Needed

Winterfest and Settlers Day need volunteers to continue their annual events.  Both groups are revving up for the upcoming 2022 year; however, the lack of new volunteers and the retiring of past leaders leaves these events struggling and at-risk right now. 

We all love the community events that Deer Park does well: Settlers Day, Winterfest, the Deer Park Yard Sale, and Roundabout 5k. None of those events are for-profit; however, they all have the potential to boost our local economy and community spirit. 

Because of insufficient volunteers, many of the Deer Park community events have either struggled, been canceled, or shortened. Sadly, a lack of vital workers and helpers is slowly killing these remarkable events.

We all have different talents and abilities, and sometimes the contributions we can make are just the thing needed by small organizations and leaders trying to run a whole event on their own. There is a common phrase that states: “many hands make light work.” We challenge you to make contact with event organizers and find out what is needed. You won’t know what you can do until you ask.

US-395 Reopened Following Motorcycle & Pickup Collision

Traffic is moving again on US-395, but the investigation into today’s serious motorcycle crash is far from over.

As of 5pm today, all lanes of US-395 have been reopened to traffic. Earlier today, a serious collision involving a motorcycle and a white pickup truck at the intersection of Highway 395 and H Street, which is near Henery Hardware, forced a complete closure of the highway, resulting in significant gridlock through the heart of Deer Park.

This Weekend, Bounce Around Deer Park For Settlers Fun

Starting this Friday, Deer Park’s Settlers Day weekend features many old and new events to keep you hopping around town. People can see a lively parade, rodeo, fire station demonstrations, youth baseball tournaments, and a farm swap. Food vendors, live music, and family-friendly activities throughout the town. Additionally, there’s an opportunity to give back at a Special Olympics fundraiser, complete with water fights involving local fire and law enforcement personnel.
