Small Business Saturday

Much like Black Friday, Small Business Saturday is designed to help businesses get their accounts in the black.  Small Business Saturday, this year landing on November 24th, is geared specifically for the small, local businesses that are vital to our communities.

With the holiday shopping season coming into full swing, it’s important to support our local, small businesses. Deer Park and neighboring communities are home to a plethora of locally owned businesses and franchises, many of which participate in post-Thanksgiving weekend shopping events. While Black Friday is often a household affair, Small Business Saturday is still in the relatively early stages of existence, first being observed in the United States in 2010, as a way to support small businesses during the busiest shopping weekend of the year.

Why should you care? Supporting your local small businesses keeps money local and helps your community by providing jobs and diversity, as well as lowering environmental impact. There are even studies that suggest buying local keeps poverty and crime levels down! So, next time you need a product or service, check out our area businesses first. The tri-county area is home to many small and family-owned businesses, including construction, heating/cooling, auto mechanics, pet grooming, hairstylists, computers/tech, second-hand and thrift shops, pawn shops, coffee and espresso, and even restaurants!

For information on Small Business Saturday and how to participate if you’re a local business, visit the U.S. Small Business Administration Website at https://www.sba.gov/about-sba/sba-initiatives/small-business-saturday.
