A Cut Above

When I heard that Northern Roots Hair Salon was giving a back to school discount of $5.00 for a haircut, I put it on my calendar. Northern Roots Hair Salon is located at 102 East Crawford Street, in Deer Park, and is owned by Tiffany Reynolds. The salon has been open since October 1st, 2017; however, this is the second year Ms. Reynolds has offered discounted haircuts for back to school kids.

The event was on August 24th, going from 11:00am to 2:00pm. The owner reported that people were waiting at the door when she opened up in the morning; she and Skyla Hall, another stylist, got to work quickly. About fifty kids got their haircut during this four hour event.  Many people in the community were very grateful for this event, and posted on social media thanks and pictures of their kids’ new cuts. So, stop by the salon to see Ms. Reynolds. She tries to be there five days a week; walk-ins are welcome, but appointments are recommended. Contact by call, text, or the Northern Roots Facebook page. Thanks Northern Roots Hair Salon for doing this for our kids!

Letter To The Editor – School Levy Importance

As a city council member in the late 70’s and early 80’s and a city employee for 24 years I have heard a lot of misinformation disseminated through “coffee shop” talk and later social media. It has always concerned me to hear incorrect information passed along by people who don’t bother to ask for the facts, when they are readily available. Right now I am hearing of things being said about the Deer Park School levy, particularly the need for a new bus barn, that are troubling.
