Robert Strickland with Deer Park Scouts Troop 2202 is putting on a benefit concert at Mix Park to support the Greenhouse Food Bank. The event will feature live music and asking for non-perishable food items or cash donations for entry.
The event was inspired by Deer Park High School junior Robert Strickland, who had the idea to organize a benefit concert to support the Greenhouse Food Bank, combining music and community service. Strickland is a Deer Park native and a Deer Park High School Band member. He also participates in the Jazz Band and Pep Band and occasionally accompanies the school choir on piano. His musical talent was recently recognized with the Maestro Award at the WorldStrides Vancouver music festival, where both the band and choir received Gold Medal Performance Awards.
An active Boy Scout since the age of eight, Robert has thrived in scouting, earning the Arrow of Light as a Cub Scout and continuing to develop his skills with Troop 2202. Now, he is working towards achieving the highest rank in scouting: Eagle Scout. This prestigious rank requires the scout to lead a community-benefitting project, and Robert has chosen to combine his love for music with his dedication to service.
The event is scheduled for Sunday, June 23rd, from 12pm to 5pm at Mix Park, 301 W. 4th St, in Deer Park. Admission is free with a donation of non-perishable food items or a cash contribution.
The benefit concert will feature performances by the Nick Vigil Trio, Ironworks, and Light & Mirrors, offering attendees a variety of musical genres. All proceeds and donations collected at the event will go directly to the Deer Park Greenhouse, which provides essential food support to local families in need.
