Governor Inslee announced Karen Johnson, PhD, as the director for the newly established Washington State Office of Equity. Johnson, previously the equity and inclusion administrator for the Washington State Department of Corrections (DOC), started her new duties as director in March.

Governor Inslee announced Eastern Washington can now move on into Phase 2 of COVID guidelines beginning Valentine’s Day, February 14th. Additionally, the governor also announced a new round of COVID financial support for business and rental relief.
The Washington State Department of Commerce is offering a third round of grants for small businesses. The first application deadline is December 11th.
Governor Inslee announced an additional $70 million for business grants. $50 million of this is for Round 3 of the Working Washington Small Business grants. The remainder will go towards funding qualified businesses that applied in earlier rounds of our resiliency grant program.
After passing the state legislature, Governor Jay Inslee signed into law a comprehensive bill that would require all K-12 schools across Washington to teach sexual education to their students. Since the passing of the bill in late March, there has been a strong response across Washington that has resulted in a movement to repeal the new law.
