Money was the hot topic at the last city council meeting. The Council Chambers filled near capacity as many people wanted to be heard. The City Hall building and concerns about taxes were frequently mentioned. Traffic and modes of transport were also discussed.
Over the last several decades Deer Park has lost several historic buildings – but there is now hope for one. At the Council Meeting on April 19th the council directed that work continue on plans to remodel the historic City Hall building from 1911. While still years away from any construction several significant phases have been completed.

The 40th annual Loonsday 5-mile walk/run returns to Loon Lake in June, featuring a t-shirt design contest, proceeds supporting community projects, and fun for all ages and abilities.
Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers invites high school students in Washington’s Fifth District to participate in the 2023 Congressional Art Competition. The winning artwork will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol. The deadline for submission is May 5th, 2023.
City Hall has not seen substantial modifications in many years. Two possible plans or the option of doing nothing have been in discussion. However, the big question remains, what is the value of history?
The Stevens County Sheriff’s Office has issued an urgent message to residents in the vicinity of the 7600 block of Highway 291, advising them to shelter in place and lock their doors due to an ongoing police action. The situation has led to heavy police activity in the area, and residents are urged to avoid the area until further notice.
Seven young ladies competed for the title of Miss Deer Park and $14,200 in scholarships. Elizabeth Fausti took the crown and $6,600 in scholarships, but all the contestants deserve recognition for their impressive performances.
Deer Park Home Link recently held their annual writing contest. Students from 3rd – 12th grade participated in writing short narratives.
I am deeply honored and grateful to have been selected as Deer Park School District’s next superintendent by our Board of Directors. After serving Deer Park’s students, staff, and community for the past two years, I have learned how truly special our community is and look forward to continuing our journey together.
