City Hall is getting a new ramp after the previous one fell into disrepair. Construction is currently ongoing to replace the 2011 structure with stronger steel, thicker cement, heating elements, and a high-tech coating. Brad Wainwright, Street Supervisor for Deer Park, updated the city council on the overhaul of the ramp, and in correspondence, explained in greater detail the specifics of the repairs.
According to a January 29th US Department of Labor news release, “President Biden directed OSHA to release clear guidance for employers to help keep workers safe from COVID-19 exposure.” As a result, the US Department of Labor has reintroduced specific guidance to assist employers and workers to identify and lessen their risks of being exposed to and/or contracting COVID-19 in the workplace.
Deer Park’s population is growing and forecasts predict it will continue to do so. A question naturally arises: How can Deer Park keep its charm and character while continuing to grow?
Even before its incorporation on June 24, 1908, early residents and non-residents alike looked to Deer Park as a rural escape from Spokane. It was a community they had created for themselves while working with the Spokane Falls/Great Northern Railway, Arcadia Orchards, or Short and Crawford’s lumber mill, whose structure eventually became the city’s center. More than a century later, with few remnants of the lumber mill or orchards left, many of the town’s residents still cherish the charm, character, and “escape from the city” Deer Park provides. Many would like it to stay this way.
The difference between flushable and treatable might not be a question asked by the city dweller. If the item effortlessly flushed away, all is fine, right? Actually, no, it may not be all right.
Governor Inslee announced Eastern Washington can now move on into Phase 2 of COVID guidelines beginning Valentine’s Day, February 14th. Additionally, the governor also announced a new round of COVID financial support for business and rental relief.
Situated 3 miles northeast of downtown Deer Park, the Deer Park Municipal Airport/Penni Loomis Field has been transforming its mission since being established as a World War 2 airfield in 1944. During the 1950’s, the airstrip became more popular for drag racing than for plane landings. Today, it has grown into a thriving, self-sustaining municipal asset serving a large variety of clients, missions, and aircrafts. Its future is more growth.
Approval has been given to Bailey Holdings, LLC to renovate commercial space on Main Street into multi-family housing. Dave Hubert, Spokane County Hearing Examiner, approved the conditional-use permit after a public hearing was held via Zoom on November 19th, 2020.
Further development of the Mill Pond Raceway has been put on hold until appeals can be heard in front of a Spokane County Hearing Examiner in early January 2021. The appeals are in response to a “Determination of Non-Significance” issued by Spokane County Public Works on August 24, 2020. This determination declared the area “does not have a probable significant adverse impact on the environment.”
With a cut of the golden scissors, Jeff Whittle, President of the Deer Park Chamber of Commerce, officially opened The Hotspot on November 17th. Located at North 104 Main Street in Deer Park, The Hotspot is a coworking office space providing a host of professional amenities to area entrepreneurs, small businesses, and/or individuals.
Several updates emanated from the Office of the Governor in December. Many regarding benefits that the Governor is extending to help people through these trying times, there was also an extension and modification to the current restrictions.
