The 40th annual Loonsday 5-mile walk/run returns to Loon Lake in June, featuring a t-shirt design contest, proceeds supporting community projects, and fun for all ages and abilities.
The Loonsday 5-mile walk/run, a beloved community event held annually in Loon Lake, is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. On Saturday, June 3rd, 2023, at 9am, hundreds of participants will gather for a day of fun, exercise, and tradition.
The race begins and ends at the Old Schoolhouse at 4000 Colville Road in Loon Lake. The course will be clearly marked, but to keep it safe for children of all ages, pets must be kept on a leash, and bikes and scooters are prohibited.
The Loonsday Walk welcomes participants of all ages and abilities, with some running to win first place and others leisurely walking with pets or strollers. The event also features garage sales along the route and two water stations for both humans and dogs.
How To Participate
Entry forms for the walk/run are also available at 2 Loons Distillery, Loon Lake Library, and Loon Lake Post Office.
The entry fee includes your choice of:
- T-shirt for $14;

- Long sleeve tech shirt for $22;
Sweatshirt for $25;
- Available in adult sizes
- If you need a XXL, it costs an additional $2 to the above prices.
- The entry fee without a shirt is $2.
Make sure you mail your entry by May 12th to be guaranteed your shirt. If you cannot pick up your shirt on June 3rd by noon, claim it at 2 Loons Distillery after 12pm or the following Saturday between 11am and 5pm.
Volunteers are also welcome to help with various tasks, such as handing out t-shirts and sponsoring water stations.
The event began in the early 1980s when local women, rather than participating in Bloomsday, decided to create their own walk. With seed money from the Loon Lake Property Owners Association, the 5-mile route was marked, and volunteers were organized. Over the years, the event has attracted hundreds from local and surrounding areas, with proceeds benefiting various community projects, such as schoolbooks, equipment for Loon Lake Elementary, local food banks, and emergency management systems. In recent years, new organizers led by Trish Schwartz have introduced a t-shirt design contest.
T-Shirt Contest Design
The entry must include:
- No more than 4-colors
- Pictures of a Loon or Loons
- All Words: “Loonsday 2023”, “40th annual”, and “Loon Lake, WA”
Completed designs can be emailed in jpeg format to [email protected] and must include name and phone number. The winning design will receive a $100 cash prize.
This year’s contest deadline is May 1st, 2023.
